Serena A. Mulhern MD, FACP
Biography
Dr. Serena Mulhern is an Internist in general practice. She has been at New York Medical Associates since 1998. She graduated Cum Laude in Biology from Princeton University and received a Masters of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley in Integrative Biology studying primate behavior. She attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and recertified in 2008. She has been an attending at the New York University Langone Medical Center since 1998.
Dr. Mulhern teaches medical students and residents at the New York University School of Medicine. She served as the Faculty Director of the student-run New York City Free Clinic from 2003 to 2006 and volunteered at the Actors Fund Clinic, which serves uninsured New Yorkers working in the performing arts, from 2000 to 2003.
Dr. Mulhern believes that the relationship she develops with her patients is a key factor in achieving their well-being. Her patients range from the first post-pediatric visit through extreme old age. She is particularly interested in how lifestyle impacts health and longevity. She believes in empowering patients to take charge of their health through careful choices. She is interested in health promotion through exercise and diet, and reducing reliance on pharmaceutical agents whenever possible.
She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter and enjoys reading, cooking and the backyard garden.
